Hi! My
name is Brian and I’m new to Brandman University. I’m returning to school to
complete my Bachelor’s in Psychology that I began a few years ago. I’ve been
fascinated by psychology and the inner-workings of the mind for my entire adult
life. I may pursue a Master’s degree as well in order to gain the
qualifications necessary to help others live their life to the fullest potential.
I’m looking forward to working with all of you to in order to get one step
closer to our dreams!
With
regard to the field of psychology, I’m not yet certain what path I’d like to
take if I had to choose only one. I’m gravitating towards psychotherapy and
understanding the psychological influences of an individual’s behavior. In
other words, finding explanation for the behavior based on past experiences and
their current environment in order to “re-gear” their perception of their
reality for the better. I’ve always been a skeptic about anything I see online,
and particularly anything dominating the news at any moment in time. I’m confident
in my skepticism in searching for the truth or validity of a declaration said
to be fact, but to be certain I am weak in determining the best avenues for
finding truth. Discovering the optimal methods for doing so will be my
objective this trimester.
Welcome to Brandman and LBSU302. I enjoyed reading why you picked your major, it was very interesting. Thanks for a great first post. Mr. Clutter
ReplyDeleteI commend you for taking the journey back to school. I was a bit intimidated by the prospects of getting back in myself after a long absence. Yet I've found that although it is intimidating I can manage it just fine. You will do the same.
ReplyDeleteI think your exploration of your personal truth it an interesting one. Most people accept what they see on the surface and never dare to venture beyond what is obvious. As you discover more you will have more questions, but in and through it all be true to your convictions and follow your heart.
Good luck on this journey of discovery.

ReplyDeleteI too find that the internet and news are not always the best resource for gathering truthful/factual information. In fact i believe in most cases there is a hidden agenda behind the explanation along with some sort of bias persuasion.
In the past i studied human services and find that psychology is very similar in the aspect of trying to help individuals live a better life . I also believe that taking the time to understand people has helped me grow in my career do wish to improve on those skills. As i enjoy helping people develop at work and find that understanding what motivates individuals is key to their success.
Great Post!

ReplyDeleteI too wish to work in the social work field. I was directed to the Psychology degree with a clinical focus as I am working with children in traumatic/crisis situations. I am an adult survivor and emotional, sexual, and physical abuse as a child that led to spousal abuse as an adult. I finally received help from Domestic Violence Solutions here in Santa maria, ca when i was 43 yrs. of age. I finally healed my inner child memories. Now I deal with new memories as they arise.
Please thank your sister for her work with autistic children and adults . I am very close with my step- children after my divorce. We have a few years ago adopted our oldest son's son who has now been diagnosed with autism and turrettes. 2 years later we adopted our second grandson who is now showing signs himself. This year we are in the process of fostering to adopt their half brother who is only 2 months now, but true to form for the mother- she was using the same cocktail of dugs with him through her pregnancy as the other two boys. I appreciate your sister for having a heart for our kids.
I like your writing style. I look forward to further posts.
